Privacy Policy

Effective date: 21 September 2025 · Last updated: 11 June 2026

My Ideal World (“we”, “us”, or “our”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use idealwrld.com (the “Site”), browse our directory and articles, save items, sign up for our newsletter, submit a brand, request verification or advertising, buy a digital product, or make a donation, and how we use and protect that information. By using the Site, you agree to this Policy. This Policy works alongside our Terms of Service.

1. Who is responsible for your data

My Ideal World is the controller of personal information collected through the Site. For any privacy question or request, contact us at info@idealwrld.com.

2. Information you give us

We collect information you provide directly, including when you:

  • Buy or download a digital product or make a donation or tip. Processed by our payment providers (Stripe, PayPal). This may include your name, email address, billing details, and transaction information. We do not store your full card number; payment card details are handled by the payment provider.
  • Sign up for our newsletter. Your email address and any preferences.
  • Submit a brand, use “Add a brand”, request “Get Verified”, or enquire about advertising / the media kit. Your name, email, business or brand details, links, and anything else you choose to send. Business contact details and any materials you submit may be used to assess, list, or feature a brand (see our Terms).
  • Contact us or correspond with us. Your email address and the contents of your message.
  • Interact with us on social platforms. Handled under those platforms’ own policies.

3. Information collected automatically

When you visit the Site, we and our service providers may automatically collect:

  • Cookies and similar technologies (see Section 6).
  • Device and browser information (such as browser type, operating system, language, and screen settings).
  • IP address and approximate location.
  • Usage data (pages visited, time on page, referring URLs, clicks, and how you navigate the Site).

Some of this is collected through analytics and advertising tools, and some affiliate or third-party platforms (such as Amazon and AWIN) may also set their own cookies when you follow their links. We do not control those platforms.

4. The “saved” / favourites feature

The Site lets you save listings. Depending on your setup, saved items may be stored locally in your browser and/or associated with limited information to provide the feature. Clearing your browser data may remove locally saved items.

5. How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

  • deliver digital products and process donations and payments securely (via Stripe and PayPal);
  • send our newsletter and other communications if you have opted in (you can unsubscribe at any time);
  • respond to enquiries, brand submissions, verification, and advertising requests, and operate those features;
  • operate, maintain, personalise, and improve the Site and its content and features;
  • measure and analyse performance and audience using analytics tools;
  • serve and measure advertising, including through third-party ad networks;
  • protect, secure, and troubleshoot the Site and prevent fraud or abuse; and
  • comply with our legal obligations and enforce our Terms.

We do not sell your personal information.

6. Cookies, analytics, and advertising

The Site uses cookies and similar tracking technologies for essential functionality, analytics, and advertising. These include:

  • Analytics. For example Google Analytics (and Google Site Kit) and the Meta (Facebook) Pixel, to understand how the Site is used and improve it.
  • Advertising. For example Google AdSense and its partners, which may use cookies and device identifiers to serve and measure ads, including personalised ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
  • Affiliate networks. Such as Amazon Associates and AWIN, which may set cookies to attribute purchases made after you follow an affiliate link.
  • Essential and preference cookies. To make the Site work and remember your choices.

You can control cookies through any consent banner shown on the Site and through your browser settings (you can block or delete cookies, though some features may then not work). You can manage personalised advertising via your Google Ad Settings (adssettings.google.com), and through industry opt-outs such as aboutads.info/choices (US) and youronlinechoices.eu (EU/UK). For more on how Google uses data from sites that use its services, see Google’s “How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services” policy.

7. Legal bases for processing (UK/EU users)

Where the UK GDPR or EU GDPR applies, we process personal data on these bases: consent (for example, newsletter sign-up, and non-essential cookies and personalised ads); performance of a contract (to deliver a digital product or process a donation you requested); legitimate interests (to run, secure, analyse, and improve the Site and our business, where not overridden by your rights); and legal obligation (to comply with applicable law).

8. How we share information

We share personal information only as needed:

  • With service providers / processors who act on our behalf. Payment providers (Stripe, PayPal), email/newsletter tools, analytics and advertising providers (such as Google and Meta), hosting and security providers. Under appropriate terms.
  • With affiliate and advertising partners, which independently set their own cookies and process data under their own policies when you interact with their links or ads.
  • For legal reasons. To comply with law, respond to lawful requests, or protect our rights, users, or the public.
  • In a business transfer. If the Site or business is sold, merged, or reorganised, information may transfer as part of that transaction.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

9. International transfers

We and our providers may process and store information in countries outside your own, including the United States. Where information is transferred internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses or equivalent mechanisms) where required by law.

10. Data retention

We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes described here. For example, to fulfil a purchase or donation, to maintain newsletter subscriptions until you unsubscribe, to comply with legal, tax, or accounting obligations, and to resolve disputes. When no longer needed, we delete or anonymise it.

11. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • access the personal information we hold about you;
  • correct inaccurate information;
  • delete your information (“right to erasure”);
  • restrict or object to certain processing, including direct marketing and profiling for personalised ads;
  • data portability;
  • withdraw consent at any time (including by unsubscribing from the newsletter via the link in any email); and
  • complain to a data protection authority (for example, the UK Information Commissioner’s Office).

California residents: you may request access to or deletion of your personal information and may opt out of any “sale” or “sharing” of personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising; we do not sell personal information for money, and you can limit ad personalisation as described in Section 6.

To exercise any right, email info@idealwrld.com. We may need to verify your identity, and we will respond within the time required by applicable law.

12. Children’s privacy

The Site is intended for adults and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

13. Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures, including SSL/TLS encryption in transit, to protect personal information. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

14. Do Not Track

Some browsers offer a “Do Not Track” signal. Because there is no common industry standard for these signals, the Site does not currently respond to them. You can still control tracking through the cookie and advertising controls described in Section 6.

15. Third-party links

The Site links to third-party websites, brands, retailers, and providers. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices. When you follow a link, that third party’s privacy policy applies.

16. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy at any time. Changes take effect when posted on this page, and the “Last updated” date will change. Your continued use of the Site after changes are posted means you accept the updated Policy.

My Ideal World App: Personal Data

My Ideal World uses the same account as idealwrld.com. Signing in or registering sends your email address, name, account identifier and any country you provide to our account service. Google sign-in sends a Google identity token for verification. Account preferences, including country or region, currency, notification choices and selected shelves, can be synchronised with your account.

Google Play membership purchases send purchase tokens and product identifiers to our server for verification, acknowledgement and account-linked membership access. We retain purchase and entitlement records. Referral features process your referral activity, earnings, payout requests, country, agreement to referral terms and any PayPal payout email you provide. Stripe or PayPal processes payment or onboarding information on its own services; the app does not receive your full payment-card details.

Directory searches send your search terms to our website to return matching results. When signed in, supported app actions such as viewing, saving and rating listings or using planning and membership features can send activity events to our backend and Klaviyo. These support account services, usage analysis and communications. Help feedback can send the category, message and email you provide. Push notifications use a device push token and platform, associated with your account when signed in or stored for the device otherwise. Email codes, account communications and subscribed updates use our email provider.

Your personal diary, meals, water, activity, goals, shopping records and review text are stored locally in the app. Deleting your online account does not automatically clear device storage or separate backups. The separate Queen of Vitality author feature can upload its authorised author's day logs, steps, wellbeing notes and selected photos to the website for publication; this is different from the local personal trackers.

Optional foreground location access supports local distance calculations. Our location helpers do not upload your current coordinates to our account service. Maps, embedded Vimeo or YouTube content and other third-party resources make their own network requests and can process IP addresses, device or SDK identifiers, interaction data and diagnostics according to their providers' policies. IP addresses can indicate an approximate location. Google Maps generates a Maps SDK-specific pseudonymous identifier and collects device and SDK metadata, crash stack traces and crash metrics, and map interactions to maintain and improve Google services. Opening directions or an external website takes you to the selected provider's service.

Embedded YouTube players can collect and share information with Google to deliver videos, prevent abuse and personalise playback. They may display video ads controlled by YouTube or the video owner. Google's Privacy Policy and YouTube Terms of Service describe these services. Vimeo's processing is described in its Privacy Policy.

The local usage dashboard stores events on your device. A separate optional analytics upload endpoint is not configured in the production release; this does not disable the signed-in backend events described above. The Android release does not use Advertising ID. Account, purchase verification and feedback requests use HTTPS. Access to optional device features remains subject to your device permissions.

We use account and purchase data to provide and secure services, manage accounts and membership, prevent fraud and handle support or disputes. Activity data supports analytics and applicable communications; uploaded author content supports publication. Service providers process data for these purposes. Public author content and external services have different audiences and processing practices. The retention and contact provisions in this policy apply to the app; use the deletion-request process below to ask us to address associated records and explain any required retention.

My Ideal World App: Account and Data Deletion

To request deletion of your My Ideal World account and associated personal data without reinstalling the app, email info@idealwrld.com from the email address associated with your account. Use the subject My Ideal World account deletion and identify any associated data you want removed. We may need to verify account ownership before acting on your request.

The app also offers account deletion in Settings. This removes the shared WordPress account and its account/profile metadata. It does not itself confirm erasure of records held by email, analytics or payment providers, or remove separately published contributions. Include those records in your email request so they can be addressed with the relevant provider or publisher.

Payment, purchase, referral, security and dispute records may need to be retained to meet legal, tax, accounting, fraud-prevention or dispute obligations. The retention policy above applies: records are retained only while needed for those purposes or for periods required by applicable law. We will explain any retained data and the applicable retention period when responding to your request.

Personal diary, nutrition and activity records stored only on your device are not automatically removed by deleting the website account. Clear the app's local storage to remove on-device records; any separate device backups are controlled through your device or backup provider.
