Your guide to clothing optional Jamaica
Finding the best naturist hotel and clothing optional hotel in Jamaica
I stayed myself and I talked to guests who do the rounds of every nudist and clothing optional hotel on the island, and now I can give you a verified review of what I think is the best clothing optional resort in Jamaica.
Jamaica has several stays with clothing optional or naturist areas, and their rules differ. This story centres on my stay at Le Mirage; the hotel’s website confirms its adults only, clothing optional setting.
I stayed at a boutique clothing optional hotel in the Negril West End because you are not here for a party.
You are here for stillness, real relaxation, and the kind of total privacy you only get at a small hotel.
Why did I choose Le Mirage in Negril?
I interviewed the owner, Mr. Grizzle, and he told me he watched Jamaica getting more conservative and decided to go the other way.
He built it toward privacy, freedom, and an uninterrupted relationship with the sun and the sea. Le Mirage is an adults only, “naturalist” boutique hotel on the cliffs of Negril. A place you can lie naked in the sun because you want to and nobody cares.
With twelve rooms, every one features a floor to ceiling view of the Caribbean.
The cliffside is unmanicured, dramatic, and theatrical.
Most of the staff have been here over a decade, and this small, dedicated team makes you feel like you have been here just as long.
Respect is the only rule, because the water is wild and there are no lifeguards so be careful.
The ultimate clothing optional Negril Jamaica experience
For a real clothing optional vacation, you need a dedicated hotel or resort, not a regular resort where you are the only one undressed while everyone looks away.
That is not freedom, that is exposure.
Is Secrets in Jamaica clothing optional?
No. Secrets in Jamaica is not a clothing optional resort.
Sure, it is a luxury accommodation, but it does not cater to the naturist lifestyle at all.
Is Sandals clothing optional Jamaica?
An adults only booking does not, by itself, give you a clothing optional stay. Ask the specific Sandals property about its current rules and any designated area before booking for that purpose.
There is clothing optional nearby Sandals though.
Sandals in Negril sits next door to Hedonism II, where you can sometimes buy a day pass for the beach.
Read the specific property’s current policy before choosing it for a naturist holiday. Sandals Negril being beside Hedonism II does not give you access to its neighbour’s facilities.
Where in Jamaica do you want to be?
Port Antonio is a different base from Negril. Great Huts is a nature lodge there, but I have not established a current clothing optional policy from its website. Contact the property before booking for that purpose.
On the west side, Le Mirage, Hedonism II and Grand Lido Negril publish clothing optional or naturist information. Compare their settings and current rules rather than treating them as the same holiday.
These properties could not be more different.
Hedonism II is famous for high energy, party heavy nudity, whereas Le Mirage is a sanctuary.
How many rooms does Le Mirage have?
Choosing where to stay in Negril means picking through the West End, which is full of luxury boutique hotels like The Caves or the Rockhouse Hotel.
But you want to feel properly liberated, with genuine privacy rather than the performance of it.
Le Mirage is the hidden gem that keeps everything quiet.
- Le Mirage has 12 rooms
- Hedonism has 280 rooms
- Grand Lido Negril has 26 rooms
Room Details
I stayed in a deluxe room on the third floor with a full panoramic view of the ocean. It was spacious with a king bed, a fridge, and a shower with actual pressure.
Every room has ocean view, so you cannot go wrong because let’s face it, that’s what you expect in Negril.
It is a romantic adults only cliffside getaway that feels miles away from the world.

How to get to West End Negril from Montego Bay airport
Where is Negril in Jamaica and how far is it from Montego Bay?
Negril is on the westernmost tip of Jamaica and has no international airport of its own. (There are rumours one is coming.)
The closest hub is Montego Bay airport, known as Sangster International, roughly 84 kilometers away, about 52 miles.
Getting to Montego Bay airport from Negril is straightforward, and you have plenty of options.
You can drive, you can book a private airport transfer to the Negril West End hotels for $100 and up, or you can do what I did, which is cheaper and still fast.
I took the Knutsford Express from the Negril office on Beach Road, and it dropped me right inside Montego Bay airport.
Clean bus. Easy journey. Cheap. It is the most reliable way to do the transfer without haggling with a taxi driver.
Staying at a hotel near Rick’s Cafe
Rick’s Cafe is legendary, easily the best known spot in West End Negril and is a 5 minute walk from Le Mirage, making it the perfect base if you want to be close to the action while keeping your sanctuary.
I was introduced to Tom, the president, and he is exactly the right person to be running it. That is how I got exclusive filming permission at Rick’s Cafe.
Rick’s encompasses everything, from cliff diving and live reggae to the most spectacular sunset on the island.
What is the time of year to visit Jamaica
I visited in May, and it was hot.
The best time to visit Jamaica is mid December to April for the reliable dry season.
If you want to dodge peak winter crowds, late April and May are excellent shoulder months.
The West End cliffside breeze keeps you comfortable either way.

Clothing Is Optional Without Hedonism In Jamaica
Clothing optional at Le Mirage is not hedonism. They are not the same thing.
Yes, Hedonism resorts exist in Negril. But being nude at Le Mirage is fundamentally different from the larger clothing optional resorts in Negril such as Hedonism II or the Grand Lido Negril.
Hedonism II promotes a lively stay with entertainment, activities and both clothing optional and nude areas. Its visitor information describes the setting.
Le Mirage gives you the absolute freedom of bare skin without the relentless chase.
The owner has no plans to turn nudity into entertainment, because the intention here is stillness. A still space next to the sea, with no distraction except the sun and the ocean.
Is Le Mirage worth the stay for naturists compared to Hedonism Negril?
Le Mirage usually comes up before Hedonism II because guests often come here first for the no tan lines serenity, then “graduate” to the Hedonism II experience.
Hedonism II has designated nude and clothing optional beach and pool areas. Its current FAQ requires cover ups in restaurants, the lobby and several other shared spaces.
Le Mirage gives you the freedom of bare skin without the relentless chase.
Hedonism II Negril reviews
If you are reading Hedonism Negril reviews, you want to know what really happens at Hedonism II.
Hedonism II has rules about consent, privacy and conduct. Its guest policies apply even in a resort that markets itself around freedom.
Hedonism II requires nudity on its nude beach and pool side, while its clothing optional side gives guests a choice. The restaurant policy requires clothing covering the chest, buttocks and genitals.
Check the designated area and the current rules before taking your clothes off.
It is high energy, and the “Hedonism Negril day pass” lets even those staying elsewhere get a taste of the famous nightlife and events.
Le Mirage or Hedonism II?
Le Mirage is the perfect quiet alternative to Hedonism II in Negril.
It is for the person who wants to go au naturel with zero pressure of a scene.
Hedo is about the crowd. Le Mirage is about the connection between you, the sun and the sea. If you want the best adults only all inclusive vacations that feel more like a private sanctuary, this is that rare blend of liberation and seclusion.

Why Le Mirage Feels Different From a Resort
No kitchen. No buffet. No à la carte operation humming across the property.
There is a complimentary continental breakfast each morning, and for everything else you head out.
Lucky for you, the West End cliffs of Negril are an easy place to feed yourself.
Rick’s Café, the island’s most iconic hangout and cliff diving edge, is a walk away and worth at least one visit for the atmosphere and the music.
Sharks and Vibes, both roadside eateries, are close by and serve proper Jamaican food with veggie and vegan options (which matters to me).
For anything further into town, route taxis run constantly along the West End Road at 200 JMD each way. Often enough that waiting never really feels like waiting.
Adults Only All Inclusive Resorts in Jamaica
Le Mirage being nothing close to a resort in Jamaica is genuinely part of the offer.
Guests compare it to the best adults only all inclusive resorts for the ultimate Jamaica vacation, but the truth is the intimate scale here is the real luxury.
There is no kitchen or giant buffet, because the point is to get you out into the heart of Negril, tasting the real local flavours the big resorts hide behind standardized menus.
You are not just booking a room. You are choosing a lifestyle of freedom you simply cannot find at the larger adults only all inclusive resorts.
What makes Le Mirage a romantic cliffside getaway?
Because it is private, this property stands out as one of the most romantic adults only cliffside getaways in the Caribbean.
None of the loud, performative atmosphere of the best adults only all inclusive resorts. The privacy here lets you and your partner truly disconnect.
You are not fighting for a pool lounger or stuck in a crowded dining hall. You are watching the sunset from your own balcony in complete, natural peace. The perfect setting for an intimate clothing optional vacation, tucked into the serene beauty of the West End.

Will I feel comfortable at a clothing optional resort?
Staying Solo at Le Mirage
I felt comfortable going clothing optional during my solo stay at Le Mirage. That is my experience, rather than a promise of how every guest will feel.
I stayed a few nights here after my stay at Charela Inn, a beachfront hotel in Negril owned by the same person.
This is a proper hidden gem hotel in Jamaica, Le Mirage accommodation sitting slightly off the beaten path in Negril rather than on the busy beach road.
I work remotely, editing My Ideal World and working in documentary film production, so I am always hunting for a good workspace.
Each morning I opened the laptop on the balcony with none of the usual resistance, because looking out over the cliffside and the Caribbean made me calm and inspired, so the work just came. Even nude. Even at a clothing optional naturist hotel in Jamaica (the same uninterrupted focus I found at my clothing optional stay in Barbuda).
Outside, I moved freely, nude as intended.
The staff made that easy, because they genuinely do not care that you are nude, in the most professional and reassuring way. They are long past noticing. Once I understood that, I was too.
What followed was unhurried.
Mornings meditating on the cliffs in the sun. Sun salutations on the cliffside with the waves crashing below. And I love that this is not a clothing optional all inclusive resort, because Le Mirage strips it back to basics.
You choose exactly what you eat for lunch and dinner, and you explore all the things to do in West End, Negril at your own pace.
For couples, this is a very romantic adults only cliffside getaway
During my stay there was one other couple, also nude, and I never once felt uncomfortable.
I beamed watching them, so in love and so free. Not in a sexual way. Just free.
You have to experience it to understand. The outside world is so prudish that this feels almost shocking at first, when really it is the opposite, it is love and ease.
We should never feel shame, or hide ourselves away from each other.
That is what stayed with me watching that couple, the simple fact of two people comfortable in their own skin.
We kept to ourselves, all of us happy to exist in a beautiful adults only space, safely.
That is the atmosphere Le Mirage gives you. Not an organised scene. Not a party. Just a mutual agreement to let each other be.
It is the perfect environment for an intimate clothing optional vacation, whether you are travelling as a pair or on your own seeking a hidden gem resort in Jamaica.

noise & people
It is no secret I seek out extremely quiet, isolated places.
So I will be honest about noise, because you should know before you book an intimate clothing optional vacation.
Le Mirage faces the ocean on one side and the West End Road on the other.
Out on the cliffs you hear nothing but the crash of water and the wind. Inside the room, or on the road facing side, cars pass and voices carry when the street is busy. It is not constant, but it is there.
I would call it a six out of ten for noise on that side during the busier hours. At night, the local dogs bark too.
The fix is simple, and it is the better choice anyway. Spend most of your time on the cliffside.
West End, Negril is a working coastline
Boats pass. Sailing vessels, glass bottomed tourist boats, the occasional fishing pirogue.
If someone aboard looked the right way at the right moment, they could probably tell you are naked.
It did not take anything away from my stay, but it is worth holding in mind, especially on the lower cliffs.
For anyone researching nudist and clothing optional hotels in Jamaica, this is simply the reality of cliffside living.
You are trading the total enclosure of a massive resort for a raw, authentic connection with the island.
If you want a private villa with ocean view in Negril that feels like an off the beaten path Negril accommodation, that trade off is well worth it.
You are not walled off from reality at one of the generic adults only all inclusive resorts. You are in the heart of the West End, living life, cliffside and au naturel.

Why Nude Tourism Is Rising Worldwide
Ever since Forbes called ‘nakations’ a rising trend, clothing optional holidays have only grown.
More and more people want clothing optional hotels, resorts, or villas.
But nudity is not the point. Freedom is.
Nudity is just the decision to stop wrapping your body in polyester and synthetic fabrics from the moment you wake until the moment you sleep.
It is an uninterrupted connection with mother nature. Sun on skin, wind on skin, salt water on skin.
It is a refusal to keep performing the dressed, composed, presentable version of yourself.
Spend even a few days at Le Mirage and you will know exactly what that means, and how free it feels.
Wait, what is a clothing optional hotel?
It’s not a silly question.
A clothing optional hotel is a sanctuary that respects your right to just be yourself.
Which is why I flatly disagree with Business Insider’s review of clothing optional resorts, the one that fixated on sex inspired decor. Business Insider got that wrong.
Clothing optional policies apply to the areas a property designates. Shared dining spaces and other facilities can have different rules. Ask before assuming you can be nude everywhere.
Clothing optional properties give you a secure, private environment to enjoy the sun and sea without the weight of anyone’s judgment.
Whether you are a committed nudist or just love the au natural option, looking for a boutique nudist resort vs large all inclusive resort, the core principle is the same. You leave behind the dogma and the stress of the “dressed” world, and you simply feel liberated.
What should visitors know about nudity in Jamaica?
Jamaica’s Towns and Communities Act makes indecent exposure in a thoroughfare or public place an offence. Do not treat an ordinary public beach as a designated naturist space.
So never assume you can drop your swimsuit just anywhere. (This is exactly why this article matters.)
Naturist resort Jamaica properties and private beach clubs are specialised, and that is what makes them so valuable.
A hotel’s private ownership does not give guests automatic legal protection or guarantee their safety. Check the property’s designated areas and rules, and keep clothes to hand for leaving them.
If you are ever unsure, look for the “swimsuit optional” signs before anything comes off.
Why travellers choose the West End, What Is The Vibe?
Travellers keep gravitating to the West End because it is a more authentic, intimate clothing optional vacation than the crowded beaches elsewhere.
The West End is full of quiet boutique hotels with ocean views in Jamaica that put privacy first.
It is off the beaten path Negril accommodation that lets you move freely between your room and the water with no “resort style” crowds in the way.
If you want a private solo experience, or a romantic adults only cliffside getaway where you can simply exist in your own space, this is your side of the island.
Are there private nude beaches in Negril and is it safe?
To get naked in Jamaica, go to a clothing optional hotel, because there are no truly “public” nude beaches where it is legal to be naked.
But the best clothing optional resort in Jamaica will almost always have a private, cordoned off stretch of beach or cliffside just for guests.
Why embrace freedom nude at a cliffside hotel rather than a public beach?
Because at a private hotel like Le Mirage, you have security, privacy, and the peace of mind of being in a protected space where you are free to exist exactly as you are.
