This guide compares five Lancashire farm shops spread across the county: Bradshaws Farm Shop on the A6 at Garstang, Pembertons Farm Shop & Dairy at Lytham on the Fylde coast, Little Town Farm Shop at Thornley near Longridge, Gazegill Organics at Rimington near Clitheroe, and The Home Farm Shop at the Eagle & Child at Bispham Green near Parbold. Each one grows or rears some of what it sells, so the useful question is which shop has the food you need, and where it was grown.

As a Londoner, I know it is not realistic for everyone to live on a farm. A farm shop, farmers' market or community garden can be part of a more direct food routine. Start with a reachable stop and a short list, rather than expecting to change everything at once.
Which farm shop or picking farm should you choose?
Lancashire is a long county, so the nearest shop is usually the sensible choice. Bradshaws sits on the A6 at Garstang, handy between Preston and Lancaster, and is best for home-grown vegetables and pumpkins. Pembertons serves Lytham, St Annes and the Fylde coast and suits a weekly shop built around its own milk and a butchers counter. Little Town, on the edge of the Forest of Bowland near Longridge, is best for home-reared Aberdeen Angus beef and a tea room. Gazegill, in the far east of the Ribble Valley, is the organic choice, and the Home Farm Shop serves West Lancashire with its own beef and lamb.
If you want vegetables from the farm, Bradshaws is the clearest choice. For milk and dairy, Pembertons and Gazegill produce their own, and Gazegill is licensed to sell raw milk. For beef, Little Town, Gazegill and the Home Farm Shop all rear their own. At any of them, ask which items on the day came from the farm itself.
Check the farm’s current crops, opening times and prices before travelling. Picking seasons vary, and a farm shop may sell produce without offering pick-your-own visits.

From a roadside egg table to farm shop
Bradshaws began more than 40 years ago, when Bill and Jean Bradshaw put a small table of their own free-range eggs at the side of the road. Home-grown fruit and vegetables followed, and the shop grew as customers kept coming back. The farm still grows a wide range of seasonal crops, which it lists as new potatoes, rhubarb, spring cabbage, pumpkins, courgettes, marrows, spinach, leeks, beetroot, beans and fresh herbs. It says much of what is in the shop is grown a few hundred yards away. In summer it grows thousands of pumpkins and squash for its pumpkin picking.
An extension in April 2009 doubled the size of the shop and brought in locally produced meat, bread, cakes and cheeses, and a pet shop was added in September 2023. The online shop shows Pilling potatoes, Dewlay cheeses, Carron Lodge butter and Ann Forshaw yogurts alongside local free-range eggs. Bradshaws also runs veg boxes, hampers and local deliveries, and has a garden centre with plants, compost, logs and coal.
Visiting and buying
The shop's website gives opening hours of Monday to Saturday 8am to 5pm and Sunday 9am to 4pm. Pumpkin picking for 2026 runs from 1 to 29 October, booked online at £2.95 per vehicle, and a pick-your-own sunflower patch opens in summer. Bradshaws is on the A6 just outside Garstang, so it is easy to reach from the M6 and from Preston or Lancaster. Ask which vegetables are from the farm that week, as the home-grown range changes with the season.

A working dairy farm on the Fylde coast
Pembertons is a traditional working farm at Birks Farm on Ballam Road in Lytham. The family has delivered its dairy produce to the local community since the 1950s, and its milkmen still deliver to doorsteps across Lytham, Ansdell, St Annes, Moss Side and Marton, in returnable glass bottles if you prefer. The farm shop opened on 1 July 2017 after what the family calls a 20-year plan. Tom Pemberton films the farm's daily routine for his YouTube channel, Tom Pemberton Farm Life, with his dad, and has a large following.
The shop sells the farm's own free-range milk and cream, with yogurts, butter, cheese and eggs from across Lancashire. The butchers counter has beef, pork, lamb and chicken, bacon, handmade sausages and ready meals, and the website says all the meat is farm reared or sourced locally. The Pantry serves hot and cold sandwiches, soups and snacks from 9am to 2pm. Outside, Pembertons Parlour is a 24-hour vending machine selling farm milk and milkshakes.
Visiting and buying
The shop's website gives opening hours of Monday to Saturday 9am to 5pm and Sunday 10am to 4pm, and Pembertons Parlour is open 24 hours. The phone line has options for the office and dairy, the farm shop and the butchers. For larger butchery orders, such as more than 2kg of sausages or more than 12 burgers, it asks for at least 48 hours' notice. The farm is on Ballam Road on the edge of Lytham. Ask at the counter which meat was reared on the farm.

A dairy farm with its own Aberdeen Angus beef
Little Town Farm, on the edge of the Forest of Bowland, has been run by Matt and Eileen since the early 1960s, when they arrived with seven cows and four children. The family started a milk round in the 1970s, and Eileen began making yogurt after milk quotas came in in 1984. Matt, Eileen and their daughter Julie opened the farm shop in 2004, and a tea room followed in 2012. The farm now milks a herd of 120 Holstein Friesians, and all the beef in the shop is its own home-reared Aberdeen Angus, hung for at least 21 days.
The butchery makes its own sausages and hand-cures its own bacon. Lamb is bought from local farmers, and the farm rears its own Bronze turkeys for Christmas. The shop sells Little Town Dairy yogurts, deli meals and cakes, with cheeses from Dewlay, Greenfields, Proctors, Butlers and Leagrams, bread from Longridge bakeries and Walling's ice cream. A fish man from Neve & Son Seafood visits on Fridays. The tea room serves breakfasts, lunches and light bites.
Visiting and buying
The shop's website gives opening hours of Monday to Thursday 9am to 4pm, Friday 9am to 5pm, Saturday 9am to 4pm and Sunday 10.30am to 3pm. Hours change over Christmas and New Year, so check the website or ring before a December visit. The farm is on Chipping Road at Thornley, a short drive north of Longridge. It is a good stop on the way to Chipping and the Bowland fells. Ask which cuts that day are from the farm's own cattle.

Organic beef, lamb, pork and raw milk at Rimington
The Robinson family has farmed Gazegill for nearly 500 years, and the name is recorded in the Domesday Book. Tony Robinson inherited the farm in 1960 and kept to organic methods, and Emma Robinson and Ian O'Reilly now run it. The farm is certified organic by Organic Farmers & Growers. It keeps a dairy herd of Old English Shorthorns, Oxford Sandy and Black pigs and a mixed flock of sheep, mainly Hampshire Downs. Its beef and lamb are grass-fed and finished, the pork is outdoor reared, and it is licensed to sell organic raw milk.
The farm shop has an organic meat counter with beef and veal, lamb and mutton, pork, chicken and venison, and resident butchers will cut to order. It also sells artisan organic cheeses and deli items, and offers local delivery and online orders. The website says a new shop is being built while the existing shop keeps trading. Eight at Gazegill, the farm's restaurant run by Doug Crampton, serves dishes made with the farm's own produce.
Visiting and buying
The farm shop page on Gazegill's website gives opening hours of Monday to Saturday 8am to 5pm and Sunday 10am to 3pm, seven days a week. The phone number above comes from the Visit Lancashire listing, and the website gives orders@gazegillorganics.co.uk for email orders. Rimington is a small village north-east of Clitheroe, close to the Pendle and Yorkshire borders, so allow time for country lanes. Ask which meat and dairy on the counter that day came from the farm itself.

Two centuries of Ainscough farming near Parbold
The Home Farm Shop opened in August 2008 in a barn next to the Eagle & Child pub at Bispham Green, in the middle of the family farm. The Ainscough family has farmed around Parbold for 200 years and was part of the Lancashire farming scene, milling wheat in Burscough and making animal feed in Parbold until the mid-1960s. The shop sells the farm's own beef and lamb from traditional British and Welsh breeds reared in the fields around Parbold. The beef is hung on the bone for at least 21 days and butchered in the traditional way.
Alongside the meat, the shop sells fresh produce, a delicatessen, bakery items and a range of wines, beers and spirits. Its website names chocolate from Choc Amor, James Chocolates and Cartmel Sticky Toffee Chocolates. Visit Lancashire's 2025 Christmas guide describes it as a family-owned shop selling meat from grass-fed, high-welfare animals raised on the farm, and calls it a great little stop in West Lancashire. The Eagle & Child pub is next door.
Visiting and buying
Opening hours differ between sources. The Visit Lancashire listing shows Tuesday to Saturday 9.30am to 4pm, closed Monday. The shop's own website shows winter hours of Wednesday and Thursday 9.30am to 4pm, Friday and Saturday 9.30am to 4.30pm and Sunday 10am to 4pm, shop only with no butcher, closed Monday and Tuesday. The website is not recently dated, so ring 01257 462 624 to confirm before a special trip. Bispham Green is a short drive from Parbold and Burscough. Ask which cuts are the farm's own.

Plan your farm visit, produce, quantities and picking dates
Choose one or two farms or farm shops that fit your route. Write down what you want, how much you need and what you will do with it when you get home. If one crop is unavailable, decide whether to choose a different farm, change the meal or return another day.
- Confirm the crop, public opening and any booking requirement.
- Ask whether you can pick yourself or buy already picked.
- Check the price unit, payment method and containers.
- Ask about access, parking and the correct visitor entrance.
