Dyfed, the old county covering Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire, is big dairy and vegetable country. This guide covers six places to buy food direct: Moody Meadows near Aberaeron, Bubbleton near Tenby, Burns Farm Shop at Kidwelly, Llaeth Beynon’s milk machines around Llanelli, and the farmers’ markets at Aberystwyth and Haverfordwest.

You do not need to live on a farm to eat closer to one. A single stop you can return to, a short shopping list and a cool bag are a good start, and most of these places will tell you what came from their own land if you ask.
Which farm shop or picking farm should you choose?
In Ceredigion, Moody Meadows near Aberaeron is open every day and Aberystwyth Farmers’ Market runs twice a month. In Pembrokeshire, Bubbleton near Tenby sells its own vegetables and eggs, and Haverfordwest’s weekly Friday market has the widest range of producers.
In Carmarthenshire, Burns Farm Shop at Kidwelly grows its own vegetables, and Llaeth Beynon’s vending machines sell milk straight from its own herd. Bring a bottle.
Check the farm’s current crops, opening times and prices before travelling. Picking seasons vary, and a farm shop may sell produce without offering pick-your-own visits.

The site also has the Moody Cow Bistro, a campsite and lodges, and a soft-play barn, so it works well for families.

The shop opens Monday to Saturday 9am to 5pm and Sunday 9am to 4pm, all year round.
It is dog friendly and offers hamper wrapping. Visit Mid Wales notes parking, disabled access and Welsh-speaking staff.

Five generations of growing near Tenby
Bubbleton is a family farm two miles from Tenby, next to the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. The family, now in its fifth generation, has a long tradition of growing Pembrokeshire new potatoes, tomatoes and other vegetables; the grandfather sold to passers-by from the greenhouses, and the family restarted direct selling in 2016.
The shop sells the farm’s own eggs and vegetables plus produce from other Pembrokeshire farms. Its hens, sheep, cattle and pigs live outdoors, and the farm grows hops: it says it was the first to grow hops commercially in Wales since 1874.
Visiting and buying
Bubbleton opens Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 9am to 4pm, and Saturday and Sunday 9am to 4pm. It is closed on Wednesdays. Visit Pembrokeshire lists it as open from January to December, but phone ahead before a long trip.
You can park beside the shop and walk round to see the crops and livestock. A stile opposite the entrance leads to the coast path about 500m away, so you can also walk out from Tenby. It is child and dog friendly.

From an egg honesty box to a farm shop
Burns Farm Shop was started by John Burns, founder of the Kidwelly-based Burns Pet Nutrition. It began as a roadside honesty box selling free-range eggs and grew into a farm shop and café.
The shop sells seasonal vegetables from its own market gardens and sources as much as possible from local food, drink and craft suppliers. It won Gold in the retail category of the 2015 Taste of Carmarthenshire Awards.
Visiting and buying
Its website lists Monday to Saturday 9am to 5pm, plus a 10am to 4pm slot that is probably Sunday; phone to confirm Sunday opening.
Visitors can meet the alpacas and feed the chickens, and the café serves coffee, main meals and sweet treats.

Its machines sell pasteurised, non-homogenised whole milk, and some also sell ice cream made from the herd’s milk.
Visiting and buying
The dairy lists vending points at Talyclun near Llangennech, Foundry Road in Ammanford, Pembrey Country Park and Swansea, and says milk is available 24 hours a day; phone between 9am and 5pm with questions.
Bring your own container and take as much or as little as you need. The machines are restocked daily.

Visiting and buying
The market runs every Friday, 9am to 2pm. You can email the market at haverfordwestfm@outlook.com; the number above is the council switchboard.
Most stalls take cards. Not every trader comes every week, so check the market’s Facebook page, or order through its Open Food Network hub and collect on Friday.

Plan your farm visit, produce, quantities and picking dates
Choose one or two farms or farm shops that fit your route. Write down what you want, how much you need and what you will do with it when you get home. If one crop is unavailable, decide whether to choose a different farm, change the meal or return another day.
- Confirm the crop, public opening and any booking requirement.
- Ask whether you can pick yourself or buy already picked.
- Check the price unit, payment method and containers.
- Ask about access, parking and the correct visitor entrance.
