A building certificate, a food waste programme and questions to ask before booking
Savannah’s squares and live oaks make it a city I wanted to see on foot. I covered the city in one long walking tour. Staying near what you want to visit helps you do the same.
For the hotel itself, look at the specific environmental work. A certificate for a new building and an operator’s account of its food waste are different kinds of information. These three Savannah properties give you places to start asking.
What certification does AC Hotel Savannah report?
AC Hotel Savannah Historic District has LEED Platinum certification for new construction, according to its architects, GMSHAY. That is the highest LEED rating. The architects describe a process covering design, construction quality control and commissioning of the building systems.
What does the building certificate tell you?
The architects’ certification account concerns the building project. It does not establish that this is the only certified hotel in Savannah or measure every aspect of a guest’s stay. I would use it alongside current information about operations, rooms and location.
The hotel’s own page places it on River Street overlooking the Savannah River. Compare the room and walking routes you want, then check the rate for your dates.
How does Perry Lane describe its food waste programme?
Perry Lane says it works with BioGreen360 to turn 100% of its food waste into fertiliser used around the property, including the plantings at its Peregrin rooftop bar. That is the hotel’s account on its sustainability page.
Is that a hotel wide sustainability certificate?
The published programme describes a particular waste process. It is useful to know what happens to the kitchen’s food waste, but the claim alone does not establish an independent rating for every part of the hotel.
Ask about the energy, water and waste arrangements that matter to your decision. A specific answer about one programme is more useful than assuming the same result across everything the hotel does.
What should you ask The DeSoto before booking?
The DeSoto is another Savannah option to compare for rooms and location. Start with its current hotel information, then ask about environmental measures and any housekeeping offer available during your stay.
Should you rely on an older housekeeping offer?
Confirm the current terms directly with The DeSoto. Ask whether the hotel currently offers a credit for foregoing daily housekeeping, what it covers and how to take part. Check the terms for your stay rather than assuming an older offer still applies.
Choose the room and location you will enjoy. If a certificate is central to your decision, ask for its name, scope and current status before paying.
How can you plan a Savannah stay on foot?
Use my Savannah walking tour to see how the places you want to visit fit together. Then compare the hotel’s position, your room needs and the total booking cost.
The stay guides offer other places to compare. Keep asking about the actual system, rather than letting an environmental label make the whole decision for you.
