The East Riding of Yorkshire is a smaller local-food area for this guide: farming country, but with only a handful of farm shops we could confirm on their own websites. We list three: Drewton’s on the Drewton Estate near South Cave, the Farm Shop at Cranswick between Driffield and Beverley, and the seasonal pumpkin patch at Butt Farm in Beverley. For more choice, see the nearby county guides at the end of this page.

Pumpkins at harvest

You do not need to live on a farm to eat closer to one. A single stop you can return to, a short shopping list and a cool bag are a good start, and most of these places will tell you what came from their own land if you ask.

Which farm shop or picking farm should you choose?

For a full weekly shop, Drewton’s near South Cave is the biggest of the three, with a butcher, deli and restaurant and over 500 Yorkshire suppliers. North of Beverley, the Farm Shop at Cranswick is a friendly village stop with a café, pies and local drinks.

Butt Farm is seasonal: it is the place for pumpkin picking in October, with entry by donation to Yorkshire Air Ambulance. All three are within easy reach of Beverley, so one day out can take in two of them.

Check the farm’s current crops, opening times and prices before travelling. Picking seasons vary, and a farm shop may sell produce without offering pick-your-own visits.

Restored farm buildings on a 1,200-acre estate

Drewton’s is built in restored farm buildings on the 1,200-acre Drewton Estate, just north of South Cave on the A1034, at the southern edge of the Yorkshire Wolds. It works with more than 500 Yorkshire suppliers, producers, growers and farmers.

Inside there is a butcher, a deli, a tearoom and a restaurant, which makes it the most complete food stop in this guide. The Manor Rooms next door is a wedding and events venue.

Visiting and buying

The farm shop opens Monday to Saturday 9am to 5pm and Sunday 9am to 4pm, and it is open on bank holidays.

The restaurant takes table bookings through the website, which is worth doing at weekends. At the butcher’s counter, ask which meat comes from the estate and which from other Yorkshire farms.

Pumpkins grown and planted on the farm

Butt Farm, on the edge of Beverley, grows its pumpkins on the farm: the White family plant them each year in many varieties. The site is also a caravan, camping and glamping park.

Entry to the patch is by a charitable donation to Yorkshire Air Ambulance, so a visit supports a local cause.

Visiting and buying

The 2026 patch opened on Saturday 26 September and runs until Saturday 31 October, 10am to 4pm. No pre-booking is needed for the patch, but special educational needs picking sessions and dog events must be booked.

Cash and card are accepted. Dogs are not allowed except at the booked Howloween dog events. After 31 October the patch is closed until next autumn.

Nearby counties

The East Riding borders several counties with fuller guides. Try farm shops in North Yorkshire, farm shops in Lincolnshire across the Humber, South Yorkshire and West Yorkshire.

Knowing a farm shop you can return to is also one of the most practical ways to be ready for disruption. Read The Be Ready Campaign: A UK Guide to Stocking Your Home With Healthy, Local Food, and use the Be Ready Map to find more local food across the UK.

Plan your farm visit, produce, quantities and picking dates

Choose one or two farms or farm shops that fit your route. Write down what you want, how much you need and what you will do with it when you get home. If one crop is unavailable, decide whether to choose a different farm, change the meal or return another day.

  • Confirm the crop, public opening and any booking requirement.
  • Ask whether you can pick yourself or buy already picked.
  • Check the price unit, payment method and containers.
  • Ask about access, parking and the correct visitor entrance.
