Divi Southwinds and Butterfly Beach were the two beach hotels in the original Barbados certification shortlist. ECO Lifestyle + Lodge has closed and is excluded. The earlier guide presented all three as currently certified; that conclusion went beyond the evidence established here.
Divi Southwinds
The original hotel record named Green Globe. Divi’s current green-initiatives page describes water monitoring, energy-efficient equipment, waste reduction and community work across the group. It also says some measures apply at selected resorts. It does not, on its own, establish current Green Globe validity for the Barbados property.

Butterfly Beach
Butterfly Beach appeared in the earlier shortlist with a Green Globe claim. The current operator pages reviewed for this update describe its accommodation and facilities, but do not establish the current validity of that certification. This is a gap in this guide’s confirmation, not proof that the hotel is uncertified.
What to check before calling a hotel certified
Ask for the property’s current certificate or a listing maintained by the certification body. Check the precise hotel name, address, expiry date and what the scheme covers. A past award, a group-wide environmental page and an active property certificate answer different questions.
For everyday operations, ask the hotel to identify the measures it currently uses and any figures supporting its claims. A target or a plan should be described as such, rather than as a saving already achieved.
Choose the hotel on evidence you can see
Both properties remain leads from the original collection. This page no longer ranks them as verified current certificate holders. Compare their location, room arrangements and the evidence they can provide before making certification the deciding factor.
The Barbados hotel shortlist also includes Atlantis Historic Inn on the east coast.
