No farm shop yet, a planning application at Eaglesham, and five farms that already deliver or sit a short drive away
There are no farm shops in East Renfrewshire. Not one that I could find trading. A farmer at Mains Farm, Eaglesham, has applied to build the council area’s first, but until then farm food reaches Newton Mearns, Giffnock and Eaglesham two ways: delivery, and a short drive. What’s Fresh delivers milk from Park Farm, and Locavore delivers organic veg boxes. For a farm counter, go to Arkleston in Paisley, Greenhall at High Blantyre or Nether Lethame near Strathaven.

Under my Apeel post, one of you wrote the rule I live by:
Appreciate this post 🙏 we always buy organic. And if we can’t afford it, we don’t buy/eat it. Health is wealth.
A reader in my comments
Health is wealth. And in East Renfrewshire, organic means a box, because there is no shop. (Here is what Apeel is and whether you can wash it off, the coating you are avoiding.)
Locavore used to grow at Neilston, inside the area, before moving to Inchinnan in 2025. So the area has already lost one grower. That is worth sitting with.
Where can you buy farm food near East Renfrewshire?
If you want it to come to you, start with the two deliveries. What’s Fresh at Park Farm, Auldhouse, near East Kilbride, is the Neilson family’s milk in glass bottles, delivered to Eaglesham, Newton Mearns and Giffnock on Tuesdays and Fridays. Locavore’s organic veg boxes come from Barnhill Farm at Inchinnan and list East Renfrewshire as a delivery area.
If you want a counter, drive. Arkleston Farm Shop and Kitchen in Paisley opened in August 2025 with a butcher, deli and café. Greenhall at High Blantyre sells beef it rears itself. Nether Lethame Farm near Strathaven has a vending room with Jersey milk, ice cream and eggs, open 7am to 9pm.
- What’s Fresh at Park Farm, Robot milked bottled milk from the Neilson family, delivered to Eaglesham, Newton Mearns and Giffnock
- Locavore, Organic veg boxes from a social enterprise farm that used to grow at Neilston, delivered across East Renfrewshire
- Arkleston Farm Shop & Kitchen, New Smith family farm shop with a butcher, deli and 80 seat café, opened in August 2025
- Greenhall Country Cafe & Farm Shop, Home reared Wagyu and Angus beef from what the farm calls Scotland’s first dedicated Wagyu shop
- Nether Lethame Farm, Jersey milk, ice cream and eggs from a farm vending room open 7am to 9pm

Robot milked, bottled milk from three generations of Neilsons
What’s Fresh is the delivery business of the Neilson family at Park Farm, Auldhouse, on the outskirts of East Kilbride. The farm is in South Lanarkshire, a few miles east of Eaglesham, rather than in East Renfrewshire itself. The website says three generations run it: Papa Tom still keeps a close eye on things, Hugh, Glen and Grant manage the farming, and Ross looks after the new dairy. The family has been dairy farming for more than fifty years, and the cows are milked by robotic milking stations, so each cow is milked when she chooses.
The family set up What’s Fresh in 2020 and has since built a purpose built milk bottling facility, which the website says is only a few metres from the farm. Milk comes in reusable one litre glass bottles as whole, semi skimmed and skimmed. Other listed lines include double cream, salted butter and garlic and herb butter, Rowan Glen yogurt, Glen Heather honey, Brose oat drinks and juice, and eggs are mentioned for delivery.
Visiting and buying
This is a delivery round rather than a shop, and the website does not publish farm gate hours. The FAQ lists Tuesday and Friday deliveries for East Kilbride, Eaglesham, Newton Mearns, Giffnock and Rutherglen, and orders placed by 9pm arrive the next morning. Payment is online only, and a postcode checker on the home page confirms whether your street is covered. The milk is from the family’s own herd, but other items come from independent producers, so check each product listing for where it comes from.

Organic veg boxes from a social enterprise farm that once grew at Neilston
Locavore is a Glasgow social enterprise that says it has opened grocery shops, built a market garden and run a veg box scheme since 2011. One of its earlier growing sites was the Left Field market garden on Kirkton Road, Neilston, inside East Renfrewshire, listed by the CSA Network as a 2.5 acre plot with a polytunnel, hens and ducks. At the start of 2025 Locavore moved its growing to Barnhill Farm near Inchinnan, in Renfrewshire, after more than ten years on small sites in and around Glasgow. Its farm page lists 21 acres, about two acres of hand scale market garden and five potato varieties on three acres, and says the land is in organic conversion while being grown to organic standards.
Crops listed for 2026 include carrots, celery, fennel, squash, onions and leeks, five kinds of kale, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, beans, lettuce, chard and beetroot. Agroforestry strips planted in early 2026 add around 80 apple trees, hundreds of blackcurrant bushes and around 500 native trees. The Standard and Large veg boxes are listed at £15.25 and £21.50, and extras include fruit bags and Mossgiel milk. Locavore also runs two shops in Glasgow, at 349 Victoria Road in Govanhill and 449 Dumbarton Road in Partick.
Visiting and buying
The website does not describe a farm shop at Barnhill, so buy by box or at the Glasgow shops. East Renfrewshire is listed among the council areas Locavore delivers to, with drops from Wednesday to Friday by its own electric vans; check your postcode when you sign up. The veg box phone line is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 4.30pm, and each Friday the next week’s box contents are published so you can swap items or pause for holidays. The website does not say that every item in a box is grown at Barnhill, so ask which vegetables came from the farm that week.

A new Smith family farm shop and kitchen off the M8
Arkleston Farm Shop & Kitchen is run by the Smith family on Arkleston Road, Paisley, in Renfrewshire, a short drive north of the East Renfrewshire boundary at Barrhead. The Farm Retail Association listing says the purpose built shop stands on 22 acres set aside for it, with planning beginning in 2024 and the doors opening in August 2025. The shop’s own website says it opened after two years of work behind the scenes. Its build diary from spring and summer 2025 shows the walls, lighting, kitchen and counters going in.
The shop says it sources as locally as it can and puts Scottish producers first. Departments cover fruit and veg, an in house butcher, a deli counter for cheese and cooked meats, pantry goods and gifts. The café seats around 80 and serves breakfast until noon and lunch from 12pm to 4pm, with bread and sweet bakes from local bakers and a takeaway counter. Seasonal events include ticketed pumpkin picking.
Visiting and buying
The website gives opening hours of 9am to 5pm, seven days a week, for the farm shop and butcher, and 9am to 4pm for the café, with last lunch orders at 3.45pm. The shop is just off the M8 between Glasgow and Paisley. The website does not name its suppliers or say what is grown or reared on the farm, so ask at the butcher counter and the fruit and veg section which items come from the farm itself.

Home reared Wagyu and Angus beef at High Blantyre
Greenhall is a family run farm at High Blantyre in South Lanarkshire, outside East Renfrewshire and due east of Busby and Clarkston. The business began in 2015, when the family bought its first breeding Wagyu female and converted a garage into a beef shop. That shop opened in March 2016 as what the farm calls Scotland’s first dedicated Wagyu shop. A larger cattle shed was later built to house the Wagyu over winter, and the farm also produces Angus beef, is registered with the British Wagyu Association and is QMS approved.
The website says all its Wagyu is home reared rather than bought in and repackaged, and the beef is butchered by HK Pender’s in Coatbridge before it comes back to the shop. The home page also lists Scottish lamb and eggs among the farm’s produce. The shop stocks chicken, bacon, cheese, butter, chutney, jam, sauces, local spirits and beers, plus honey from hives on the farm. The shop was extended and a café added in 2019, serving burgers, soup, toasties and main meals, with a Saturday evening dinner service and steak nights.
Visiting and buying
The website gives farm shop hours of 10am to 4pm Monday to Saturday and 11am to 4pm on Sunday, with the café open 10am to 4pm every day. Coming from East Kilbride, the site’s directions say to take the first slip road for Blantyre and look for the white house with sheds at the front and back. Shop orders can be phoned in and collected from the café, paying by card over the phone or by cash or card on collection, and Saturday dinner must be booked. Ask which cuts are from the farm’s own Wagyu and Angus, as the shop also stocks bought in lines such as chicken and bacon.

Jersey milk, ice cream and eggs from a farm vending room
Nether Lethame Farm is a family run farm on the outskirts of Strathaven, in South Lanarkshire, south east of Eaglesham and outside East Renfrewshire. It keeps Jersey cows, which are milked by a robot, and the milk goes to a tank in the milk house. The website says milk, ice cream and sorbets are made on site, usually within a few hours of milking. The farm’s hens lay the eggs, which are collected daily and described as free range.
The self service vending room sells the farm’s milk in glass bottles, ice cream, eggs, freshly ground coffee and hot drinks. Listed ice cream flavours include Just Jersey, strawberry, chocolate, honeycomb, raspberry and white chocolate, and mint choc chip, plus fruit sorbets. A van at the farm sells cones, tubs, coffee and homemade waffles, and pop up waffle nights are announced on social media. The website does not name the family or say how many cows are kept.
Visiting and buying
The website gives vending room hours of 7am to 9pm every day, with the van open on Saturdays and Sundays from 9.30am to 4pm. The farm is on Lethame Road outside Strathaven, and the site says there is plenty of free parking. No phone number is published, so email info@netherlethame.com with questions. The milk, ice cream and eggs come from the farm, but ask about the coffee and any other lines you see in the vending room.

Why is there no farm shop in East Renfrewshire?
The north of the area is suburb, part of Greater Glasgow. The south is moor and lochs, with part of Whitelee Wind Farm on it. Good ground for wind, rough ground for vegetables. A farm shop needs both a farm and a footfall, and here they sit at opposite ends.
The Mains Farm application at Eaglesham is the one to watch. If it opens, it would be the first. If you live there, a planning application is a moment your voice counts.
Why deliveries count as being ready
The UK Government’s Be Ready campaign asks every household to manage for three days if services are disrupted. For Scotland, Ready Scotland sets out what to keep in a home emergency kit, and ready to eat food and bottled water are on the list.
Milk on the doorstep twice a week and a box from a farm you know are part of the plan. Read The Be Ready Campaign: a UK guide to stocking your home with healthy, local food, and our emergency preparedness guide.
Plan your visit, what to buy and how much
Choose one or two stops that fit your route. Write down what you want, how much you need and what you will cook with it when you get home. If one crop is not in, change the meal, not the plan.
- Confirm opening days and any booking for the café or events.
- Ask what was grown or reared on the farm, and what was bought in.
- Check payment methods, and bring your own bags and boxes.
- Ask about parking and the right entrance for visitors.

A council area that lost its organic grower and has no farm shop has the most to gain from one. Order the box. Back the bottle. And tell me in the comments when Mains Farm opens, because I will add it the same week.
